Why WordPress is the best place to build your website with Sharon Henderson

Welcome to episode 10 of The Determined Mom Show. I am your host, Amanda Tento and we have Sharon Henderson. She is an amazing mom out of New Zealand. She is the owner of K E M in a Box and her specialty is building WordPress websites, copywriting, and teaching online courses.

So let’s listen in as Sharon shares her WordPress experience and also gives us an overview of why WordPress is definitely the best website platform for you to use when building your website for your business.

“I loved writing, so I started blogging, monetizing my blog, and seeing where working online got me. So that was awesome and that’s when I discovered my love of building websites and I haven’t really looked back since then. It’s been an interesting journey.”

We know that you started building WordPress sites. When did that happen? What made you go to WordPress? What attracted you to WordPress other than other blogging platforms and how’d that happen?

“Oh, well I fell upon it really. I was looking for something else to do and I hadn’t gone back to work but I knew I needed to exercise my brain in some way and a friend of mine recommended it to me. When I started WordPress, it was synonymous with blogging, which I loved. I have tried other platforms like Shopify, Wix, Joomla, etc but never liked their rules now features.

WordPress also allows better control over SEO and I encounter people on a daily basis that need help with their SEO. My company assists with that, we get in there and that’s the first thing that I look at is what is this site built with. Shopify is a little bit easier to do SEO for than Wix because I can maximize the SEO for all of the products individually and that kind of thing and that gives you a little bit more juice.

However, with Squarespace, we can’t really control a lot of the technical issues that we can with WordPress. I mean, with WordPress, you can speed the site up instantaneously by doing a few things and with Squarespace and Wix, you’re limited to what they allow you to do.

You also have the addition of email and those kinds of things and people don’t realize that when you get a WordPress site and you have it hosted, your hosting provider is going to provide you with your domain emails. So you can just forward it to a Gmail account or wherever and reply.

I also like to set up firewalls and spam protection plugins like those that protect from multiple logins and comments protection. I would also install Yoast for SEO etc

I think most of this preconceived notion that WordPress is hard and that you need coding skills and that may have been true and when I started, we don’t need that now and you can do it. That’s why I’ve designed this course to take people through the process step by step, to demystify WordPress and show you their tips and tricks that will save you lots and lots of time and avoid the white screen.

Also lots of bonuses, including access to my Facebook group. That’s already applied in the mastermind group which is amazing and a huge value. Especially since they’ll be starting it with someone really walking them through step by step. Exactly what you need to learn, what you need to do, what you need to pay attention to, what you don’t need to pay attention to.”

I think it’s going to be a great thing for people. Thank you. This episode of The Determined Mom Show is brought to you by onlinemarketingformoms.com.
