How to Rearrange Your Weekly Schedule to Drop Your Stress Level

How to Rearrange Your Weekly Schedule to Drop Your Stress Level

Welcome to episode 131 of The Determined Mom Show. I am your host, Amanda Tento and I want to talk to you today and share with you something that I’ve done recently to rearrange my weekly schedule. It has dropped my stress level by about a thousand percent and I’m not even exaggerating.

Normally what I do is I work on every single thing all the time that needs to be done and I’ll make a big to-do list and it’s a jumble of this and that. So what I realized is that I have very distinct things that I do during the week.

I have one client that takes up probably about six hours of work per week because I do social media management for his clients. So it’s a white-label situation and I’ve been doing this for four years now and I don’t want to give it up because I just love working for him and I love what I do.

I have decided that I will do all of that work on a Monday, so that’s all I have on my calendar now for Monday, I don’t do anything else. I rearrange my calendar so every day is designated for certain types of appointments that I have and I do not do anything else.

For example, my second day of the week is all Google My Business. There is nothing else that I do that day. I don’t think about anything else. I don’t focus on anything else. The only thing that I do is Google My Business and I’ve actually decided to keep a little tiny spiral-bound notebook and I just number the days like the dates.

Then I start adding to that list as I think of things that need to be done on that particular day. I can’t even give you the quantification of how much it has changed my life but it has.

It’s also a breath of fresh air, knowing that you got everything done and organized. It’s such a freeing feeling and it gives you time back, to kind of think about your next steps and think about what you want to do.

If for example, I want to read a book for three hours on a Friday afternoon and then take a nap, I can now do that. When I say this, it has taken me four and a half years to get here. Four and a half years of just juggling my schedule and trying to figure out the best thing to do and I’m constantly adding projects to my plate.

If I want to take off, I can, if I want to work on my projects, I can. It’s just such free time. Now I have a full eight hours to work on the podcast every week. Even if I don’t spend all of that time on the podcast, it’s going to allow me to focus on social media and engagement and sharing and all of those things and it’s just going to allow me to expand the audience and just interact with all of you more and I love it.

I love having that freedom and I can’t believe that it’s taken me four and a half years to figure this schedule out but I am so happy that I did. If you can compartmentalize all of your work, I highly suggest it because the benefits offer you more time with your family and to do what you want to.

It is game-changing and I have noticed that I have been more relaxed than I’ve been in years because I know that I’ve gotten everything that I need to be done by Tuesday.

How to Rearrange Your Weekly Schedule to Drop Your Stress Level

All of my client work is done by Tuesday and then Wednesday is a fun day of working on the foundation and then Thursday and Friday are just me doing fun, networking, connecting with people, you know and just doing whatever I need to do to help my business.

It is game-changing and I hope that talking about it in this way has helped you to kind of think of it in a different way. I will tell you I’ve read a million different time management books.

I’ve done presentations on time management in summits for two years in a row and I never shared this method. I always shared time blocking, which I do still block within those times if I need to but honestly, this is like day blocking and it works so much better for the way that my mind thinks I don’t have to jump from task to task and try to switch gears and all of that stuff.

I am just getting all of that done in one day, focusing on something else tomorrow. It truly helps me and I hope it helps you too. I hope you have an amazing week.
