How to maximize your time and enjoy your life with Time Blocking

Welcome to The Determined Mom Show. I am your host, Amanda Tento, and we have a special guest. Her name is Allison Nelson, and she is the owner and founder of The Nelson Company. She will be talking to us about Time Blocking, and by using Time Blocking, you can get as much done in your business and with your family as you can. 

 I know you will be talking about some excellent tips for our moms today, and first, we want to get to know you a little. So tell us about you, where you live, how many kids you have, and your business. 

“Sure, like you said, I am a wife and mom. I live in New England right now. I am from New York originally. So we moved here about the year we got married. So it’s been about seven years that we live here now. So it’s different, but we are both from New York and have a daughter. She is almost three.

So the eCommerce business also has a blog, and the shirts and gift items are designed to promote kindness, inclusion, love, and laughter. The blog does the same thing, just on a deeper scale. We love to be able to inspire women to do many things; we’ve been talking about being their best selves, not apologizing but also making room for the fact that you are a new person now.

We promote growth and set aside time for personal gain. Now this is where we can help you with those things. We love the idea of being able to provide a gift solution to women who are in the same position. So mugs, travel, smugs, sweatshirts, things like that. We have available gift items. 

We love to offer objective advice on motherhood and business and how to grow and be your best self through the blog and our guest blogs, and we also sponsor networking events for women in business. 

Many women have approached me in the past eight months that I’ve been doing this business and asked, how did you do it? How did you start? Even though you had all these fears, you have a master’s degree. How did you decide to start making shirts? 

How do you start a business, and how do you manage it? How do you manage your time?  I started mentoring a couple of my friends who wanted to start their own business in my situation as a mom, and we just rolled out our coaching program. 

It’s six weeks for one-to-one coaching with me. It 24/7 access to me, all my worksheets and videos, and we work on your blocks around time management, some financial blocks, etc.” So that’s awesome. So what kind of time management tips do you have for the audience?  

“So I love Time Blocking. When I started to name each hour I had with a task or put myself in a particular position during that hour, I found that I was much more productive but also had much more white space.

So we all have that white space in our calendar where we can do whatever we want, and It’s like free time. This free area is not making you money, so you’ll use this time to bring out your best self and put that into your children. You’ll put that into your marriage. You’ll put it into your business. That, to me, has been so transformative, and that’s what we teach women. 

We teach women a lot, and the first tip I tell moms is to figure out how you’ll brain dump, whether it’s a worksheet or on your phone, etc. So that way, it’s not in your head and not hard to get out of your head so that you can enjoy yourself. 

When they do this daily, it also prevents procrastination because, guess what, if you don’t do it, you’re going to have to move that block over to another period and get it done another time. You also start to see two essential things: how much time things take and that things are being done. I hope that moms out there are listening to this and saying, I’m going to go in time block now.
