The “Secret” to Growing Your Business and Brand Quickly
Welcome to episode 101 of The Determined Mom Show. I hope you enjoyed last week’s episode, where I talked with my husband and reminisced over the show’s previous two years. Today I want to tell you the fastest way to grow your business and brand.
This is something that took me a long time to learn. I learned it the hard way by not listening to other people and letting myself be caught up in what other people might think of me and what may come out of it.
I was overwhelmed by the possibilities, but now I am willing, ready, and able to accept whatever comes my way in my business. And I hope that you are too. So what is this big secret that I’m talking about? The secret is exposure, including guest appearances, speaking in other Facebook groups, and presenting your area of expertise on podcasts, articles online, and even on television.
This is critical to the success and growth of your business because the more people that know about you, that love to hear from you, that learn from you, the more exposure your business will have and the more impact it can have on many more people. If you speak to an audience of a thousand people, and those thousand people tell one friend, you’ve just multiplied your exposure.
So that is why speaking engagements and any exposure and education you can offer are critical. This is where Clubhouse has become a catalyst for my business. And the reason that I say that is because I met one person. The first week I signed up for Clubhouse in January, that connection with that person gave me multiple speaking engagements and new clients.
So it’s important to remember that everything you do has a ripple effect on your business. I am introducing you to a few of my favorite tools that I use to book speaking engagements and also give you some tips on nurturing your network. The first thing that I want to share with you, which is easy to take advantage of, is a website called Help a reporter.com.
You may already have heard of this. A lot of people will refer to it as Harrow for short. You can sign up for emails as a source of information. They will send you a list daily of different topics that reporters worldwide are looking to report on. If any of those fall into your expertise, you can certainly share your knowledge. You know, pitch to them like, this is why I would be a good fit, or answer their question.
There are many ways to connect with them, but this is one of the easiest things to do without much effort. So if you’re looking for a great way to get started, you know, sharing your story, expertise, and information, Harrow is excellent.
And the website again helps reporter.com. The next thing is to listen to Notes. So Listen notes is a website that is a catalog of all various casts. You can take a couple of different strategies here and approach it by looking at your competition and seeing what podcasts they’ve been on. You can search there. You will find all the podcasts they’ve appeared on in the search bar.
One option is to go ahead, put in your name or the competitor’s name, and search and see different podcasts related to those they’ve been on, or you can also pitch yourself to the ones your competition has already been on.
This can give that podcast audience a different perspective on the same topic. And it can also help your exposure. I love this, and it’s a significant portion of your strategy. The next one is also a very passive way to discover things in yours. My area of expertise is a website called talkwalker.com.
This is very similar to Google Alerts, but it works better than Google Alerts because I have the same alerts set up on Google Alerts as I do on Talkwalker. Talkwalker gives me way better results than Google signs. So you go to talkwalker.com, and you just set up alerts just like you do on Google.
And you’ll get a digest of an email that mentions all of your topics, you know, throughout the day. So every morning, I get a Talk Walker alert with information on Google My business. And what I use that for is to source information and source people talking about Google my business and share their knowledge and expand my network that way.
The fourth thing that you can do is leverage your network. You can post on social media and say, Hey, I’m looking for a speaking engagement, so I’d love to talk about X, Y, or Z. Do you know of any opportunities? You’re most likely going to see many people that, either. Have those opportunities, or do they know someone with a chance for you?
Once you have that opportunity, the opportunities presented to you will grow; eventually, you won’t even need to seek opportunities. You’re just going to have them sent to you in your email. You’re going to have lots of different options. Another thing I highly suggest is participating in summits, conferences, and networking groups.
I started 337 networking, if you are unfamiliar with it, as a way for people to connect and collaborate. Be able to use each other’s networks as a referral source. So every week, we have a session in the 337 networking group about referrals. Like, what do you need in your business?
Can we give you any advice this week? Who do you need to be connected with so your business can grow? These are things that are critical to you. If you want to join us at a 337 networking meeting, we have them every Thursday at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. You can visit tdm marketing.com to learn more about the 337 networking group.
This episode, although short, helps you see a lot of the opportunities you have in front of you that are very, very passive but can expand your reach so much. I would love for you to give feedback on this episode and let me know if anything I’ve mentioned here today helps you grow and helps you to get more speaking engagements, and I would love to hear yours.
