The Problem

I am going to share with you how to spend an extra day with your kids this month. Let’s face it, as moms we are super busy with everything from laundry to organizing.  We find it impossible to get everything done because there is just no way to do it all. If we work outside the home, we have to balance work, home, school projects, and homework. Personally I am currently juggling work, home, school for my girls, college classes for me, and my blog.  I always end up feeling guilty at the end of the day about what I haven’t done (even though I have done more than my 20 year old self could have ever imagined one person squeezing into a day).  This is totally normal, but it doesn’t make us moms feel good.

The Solution

Fifteen minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance.  Wait.  Scratch that, what I meant to say is, you can get a lot done in fifteen minutes. So, let’s make a promise to ourselves for the next month (start on any day you choose) to carve out just 15 minutes from our busy days and focus solely on playing with our kids.  My girls are going to love this.  Love may actually be too light of a word, but it is going to fill their little hearts with so much joy they won’t be able to contain it!  So, repeat after me: “I am determined to spend an extra fifteen minuted each day with my kids this month, doing kids things”. I am convinced that it will not only be good for them, but it will lower our stress levels too and let us have some fun!  I am all for fun!

So, here is a list of 30 things you can do with your kids for those 15 minutes.  Pin it, save it, download it, print it (do people still print stuff), whatever you need to do to keep it handy. Please comment and let me know how your month went.

This is a good reminder of how important it is to spend one-on-one time with your kids. 15 minutes is totally doable, especially if you make it a priority…which it should be.

    • Amanda

Thank You for reading Shannon! I agree and we moms are so hard on ourselves for not doing EVERYTHING under the sun in the course of a day. I am hoping breaking it down to 15 minutes but seeing how valuable that time can be will remove some stress!

Right Shannon! 🙂 We have got to balance the million and one things we have to do….somehow! Hopefully this helps moms to do it.

  • They are all great ideas! And so easy to do. I mean not so easy but like it is a nice and achievable way of spending more time with the kids. I am not a parent yet and I already barely have time for myself between my job and the blog but i’ll remember this post when i do have kids! xx corinne

I remember when I was single and kidless. 🙂 It was a fantastic period of life! Enjoy your free time (even though I remember it seeming like I never had any)!

  • Nannymomrhonda

These are all great ideas! I’m going to do some or all over the summer.

    • Amanda Tento

That sounds like a fun summer! I just put together a printable checklist for the fridge with all of these on it. Stay tuned for a post with the link to it. 🙂

  • I love your ideas! I do a lot of these with my kids. Especially the photo shoot one.

    • Amanda Tento

The photo shoot one is probably one of the furthest down my list…what tips do you have for doing it?

  • Ann Bacciaglia

Now that my Son is a teenager it is getting harder to spend time with him. He is always involved in a bunch of after school activites. We are planning a trip to take together this summer.

    • Amanda Tento

Well, you can always use the travel time in the car to connect with him. There is a free text message list I get each week from a place called Q4KIDZ. If you text Happy6 to 30644 they will send you a weekly text graphic with questions to ask your kids. Many would be good for teens too. 🙂

  • Megan

I really needed to see this. I get so wrapped up in all these things that I don’t feel like I ever get to get down on my kids level and just play.

    • Amanda Tento

I feel the same way Megan! I rarely spend time actually playing with them and my pile of mom guilt just sits in the corner while I do housework, school work, blog work, tired from work! LOL!

  • Ophelia Tang

Great tips. All of us need this and take some time with kids or family. Thanks for sharing.

We all have to try what we can when we can! 🙂

  • Great ideas, these! It can be so hard to find the time to spend proper quality time with our children, but every little moment helps.

    • Amanda Tento

You are welcome! I hope it helps you in some way! That is my goal.

These are such amazing ideas for moms who are so busy. Great for a quality time with kids. Enjoying every moment while kids are still young.

    • Amanda Tento

That is a huge challenge to enjoy every moment. We need to get it in any time we can! 🙂

  • Cristina Leau

Great tips. I love blowing bubbles :))

    • Amanda Tento

Me too! Bubbles make adults act like kids!

  • Kaylee

These are all great tips. The smallest things can turn into some of the best memories to look back on.

    • Amanda Tento

That is so true! We just need to remember it doesn’t take a long time to create memories! 🙂

    • Amanda Tento

Awesome! Enjoy your summer and let me know if you get to do all of them!

  • Such great tips and lovely blog post. I don’t have kids but I’ll have to share them with my cousin who has a toddler.

      Thank you Jackie!

These are great ideas of things to do with your kids. And I agree that we should definitely be taking more time with them. Even fifteen minutes a day adds up.

    • Amanda Tento

It sure does add up and makes us feel less of the #parentguilt ! It’s a win win! 🙂

  • I agree that we all have at least 15 minutes to spare in a day. A picnic is such a wonderful way to spend quality time with your kids x

    • Amanda Tento

That is so true! We just need to remember it doesn’t take a long time to create memories! 🙂

  • Cynthia Nicoletti

We all have at least 15 minutes extra in our day. If not even more. Great ideas you listed as activities to do.

    • Amanda Tento

Very true. It is easier for moms to see how those little moments add up to a lot more time with this method.

  • Officer Travels

This is so important! Especially in an era where kids are just plopped in front of a TV/Computer/Ipad. Great advice!

    • Amanda Tento

Ugh! I know! We limit what our kids can watch and how much pretty severely. I love that their natural instincts are to dig in the dirt and collect bugs and make believe to keep themselves busy. 🙂

  • Oh! We love blowing bubbles and reading books. Thank you for the other activities you listed. We’re very much hoping to be more outdoorsy by next year when we get a garden. 🙂

    • Amanda Tento

You are welcome! I hope you get to enjoy soe of the other outdoor activities as well. If you look on Pinterest there are a ton of ways to grow plants (including veggies) indoors as well. 🙂 Have a great day!

  • I think you just listed everything! But for me, I could spend time with my kid even on whatever I do, for instance, I can let him join me in the kitchen, give him some chores and it could be our bonding time.

    • Amanda Tento

That is awesome! I am sure he enjoys every moment of it! With kids, sometimes we think their expectations are much higher and all they want to do is be near us! 🙂 Thanks for that reminder!

  • Amanda Tento

I think that study is right! I find when I spend extra deliberate time with them they are happier and can entertain themselves more indendently.

  • Amanda Tento

I am sure they will! I plane on starting it with my girls on the 1st of June!
